The company was established in Italy in 1974 after Giorgio had honed his skills as a designer in the fashion house, Nino Cerruti. Prior to this he had worked in fashion in Milan and had been inspired by his trips to the UK to develop his classic menswear line.

He was soon to expand his company overseas and Armani was to become a brand recognised the world over.
He soon gained a reputation for himself, which was enhanced by America’s rich and famous who began to wear his clothes. This attraction has not waned over the years as in 1998 after having to show in New York instead of Paris as intended, Armani drew the likes of Scorcese, de Niro and Loren to his show. Armani continues to style American icons including Christian Bale for the 2008 Batman film.
Armani had a keen business sense and began to develop partner companies to cater for a range of customers. He designed Armani jeans for his younger clientele and a less exclusive range for more mainstream customers in the form of Emporio Armani. He also capitalised on the exclusivity of his own name and designed many outfits for celebrities to wear to important occasions such as blockbuster movie openings. To compliment his more exclusive range and label, the Beverly Hills range was established after 2000.
The Beverly Hills Range of perfume is mainly for women and it is known for its beautiful colours and luxurious fragrance. There is a whole range from Giorgio G, Giorgio Yellow, Red, Ocean Dream, So You and Wings for Women. There is also an equivalent for men in the form of Wings for Men.

He formed the company with Sergio Galeotti, establishing a line of menswear now known worldwide for its clean lines and tailored look. Armani was soon joined by his sister and went on to develop a line of women’s clothes in 1975.
Armani soon achieved international success with his line of clothing and established several stores capitalising on the success of Armani. He developed new lines such as Emporio Armani in the 1980s and by 2000 he had branched out into related design areas, creating underwear, swimwear and make up.

Guerlain Perfumes

Guerlain is a traditional perfume house which is nearly two centuries old and amongst the originals created and developed. It was owned by the Guerlain family until 1994 when it became the acquisition of the international Louis Vuitton Corporation.
In 1828 Pierre-Francois Pascal Guerlain opened his perfume store in Paris. He created and manufactured his fragrances with the help of his sons, Aime and Gabriel.

His patrons were amongst those in high society and the reputation of his perfume grew until it was elevated to a service for royalty when in 1853, Eau de Cologne Imperiale was created. After this Guerlain earned the accolade of becoming the King’s official perfumer and also served Queens Victoria and Isabella of England and Spain.
In 1864 Pierre’s sons took over and expanded the house. Aime created many wonderful perfumes including Fleur d’Italie (1884), Rococo (1887), Eau de cologne du coq (1894) and Jicky (1889). In turn, Gabriel’s sons took over the business and Jaques Guerlain created the popular Eau de Coq (1894), Mouchoir de Monsieur (1904), Apres L’Ondee (1906), L’Heure Bleue (1912), Mitsouko (1919), Vol de Nuit (1933), Ode (1955) and the famous Shalimar (1925).
The last in the Guerlain line, Jean Paul, began to create fragrances for men such as Vetiver (1959), Habit Rouge (1965), Nahema (1979), Samsara, Heritage and Coriolan (1990s). After retirement he acted in an advisory capacity and the company is now overseen by an outside master perfumer, Thierry Wasser who has already created Iris Ganache and Quand Vient la Pluie for Guerlain, contributing to more than 300 fragrances created in total.
Guerlain have influenced other perfume houses with their innovative design using blends of sweets, spices and flora. Guerlain still sell Shalimar a velvety perfume with lemon and vanilla, along with Insolence, Too Much, Champs Elysees, L’instsant Guerlain, Mahora and Samsara. There is also a version of L’instant for men.

He later trained as a designer despite the obstacles of war in the early 1940s and was able to develop his talent and turn it into the creative drive behind Givenchy.
Givenchy created his own range of clothing. He was successful and launched the face of his brand, model Bettina Graziani who became an icon for his company, best known for wearing her very own ‘Bettina Blouse’. It was not just models who adopted his clothing and accessories but famous actors and actresses such as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the Kennedy family who wore the brand’s clothes to the John F. Kennedy funeral. The brand soon grew a reputation for combining classicism, originality, elegance, daring and modernity.
From 1952 there were many collections including the bag dress of 1955, printed textiles (Miro style) of the 1980s and the ‘Gentlemen Givenchy’ of 1973. However in 1995, John Galliano took over the company after Givenchy’s retirement and the company became part of the luxury Louis Vuitton group. The company retained its success although later in 2001 Julian Macdonald was to take a slightly different direction with the company, favouring themes of space and the gothic. This still attracted fresh interest and today the company as part of the French group is one of the best sellers.
Givenchy perfume is particularly popular today as the nostalgia of Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy attached to it attracts huge numbers. Indeed the perfume is very classic and elegant and there are several different products including Amarige, Amarige Mariage, Ange Ou Demon, Eau Torride, Hot Couture, Extravagance d’ Amariage, Organza, Indecence de Organza, My Couture and Very Irresistible, which is a fine range for women. The Issey Miyake designers became interesting technological innovators in their production of garments which used the newly created technique of pleating. This new process of pleating enhanced the flexibility of the company’s clothing products. More recent imaginative breakthroughs the brand has made includes the Me Issey Miyake line, which manufacture one-size-fits-all shirts that stretch to adjust to the wearer’s body, and the Miyake A-POC collection of custom-made garments that can be cut into a variety of shapes by the consumer. His first fragrance, which was launched in 1992, was called L’eau D’Issey and was a light and floral perfume for women. Combining a range of aromatic water-based flowers, the perfume came in a sleek, florally-imprinted bottle and became popular with consumers. Two years later, L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme, which attempted to balance a powerful spicy and citrus fragrance with subtler freshness, was launched. Its predecessor, L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme Intense, aimed to fortify this spiciness and strength to offer a deeper fragrance. The other ranges created by Issey Miyake for men are the L’Eau Bleu D’Issey Pour Homme and L’Eau Bleue D’Issey Eau Fraiche which are both gentler, woody perfumes. Finally, Le Feu D’Issey Light is a dynamic fragrance that evokes the concept of fire through its dynamic fragrance.

Iceberg Perfume

The Iceberg brand was founded in 1962 by the Italian partners Silvio Gerani and Guiliana Marchini. Guiliana was the creative force behind the venture which was managed by the designer’s husband Silvio. Today, their son Paolo Gerani is the deputy-chairman of the Gilmar group, of which the brand is a part, and has a creative and managerial role to play in the Iceberg business.

In 1994, Guiliana Marchini was the only woman to be knighted for her ’services to industry’ and became only the 14th woman to ever receive this honour from the President of the Italian Republic.
The Iceberg business began as a small knitwear manufacturing firm and grew, thanks to the innovative moves its designers made, to the size it has currently reached. In 1974, Iceberg launched the first ever fashion range to use the idea of fashionable sportswear. The knitwear garments producers employed fresh manufacturing techniques, new fabrics and original designs including the use of Andy Warhol’s iconic Pop Art.
Iceberg gradually grew in manufacturing capabilities and reputation as it signed a deal with Toyota in 1987, opened its first boutique in Milan in 1989 and a number of new showrooms. The brand has gone on to branch out into different fashion spheres and have launched unique leatherwear lines, accessories and perfumes to date.
Iceberg have released numerous separate perfume selections, almost all of which have fragrances for men and women. Iceberg Perfumes strike a delicate balance between flowery aromas and deeper, more dynamic woody fragrances. Iceberg Femme and Iceberg Homme, the first fragrances created were launched in 1989 and 1991 respectively. Subsequently, Twice, Universe, Gerani and Fluid, Fluid Light and Effusion were released with complimentary versions for men and women. Twice Ice was created in 1998, but with only a version for women.
