It was not until after the death of Hugo Boss, however, that the brand experienced its growth of fame and popularity as the brand began to make high-class men’s suits in the 1950s.
In 1985 the company went public and is currently controlled by the Italian Marzotto family as part of the Marzotto Group. The company has three separate brands of clothing – Boss, Hugo and Baldessarini – which are distributed to over 100 countries worldwide in their 5000 retail stores.
Since 2000, the brand has also catered to women’s clothing needs and the womenswear line has been very successful. The Hugo Boss brand specialise in numerous ranges of luxurious styles for different occasions, from elegant classic designs that are ideal for business and formal occasions, to more unconventional combinations of fabrics and cuts that accentuate individuality and sophistication, as well as sportswear. One of the most successful ventures of Hugo Boss has been their line of fragrances which have now become an integral part of the company.
The first perfumes were launched by the brand in the 1980s starting with Boss in 1985. Since then, Hugo Boss has released several more fragrances, many of which have become bestselling products. For men, the brand have created: Boss, Boss Sport, Boss Spirit, Elements, Hugo Boss E’dt, Elements Aqua, Hugo Boss No.6, Hugo Dark Blue, Boss in Motion, Boss Orange, Baldessini, Boss Soul and Hugo Energise. For women there is Boss White, Hugo Woman, Boss Woman, Deep Red, Intense, Boss Intense Shimmer, Boss Soul, Boss Pure Purple and Boss Femme.
