Michael Kors’ fashion draws on sleekness, sophistication and leisure, which is also reflected in his fragrance. ‘Michael Kors for Women’ launched in 2000 followed by ‘for Men’ in 2001. His most recent addition ‘Island’ appeared in 2005 and won the 2006 Fifi award for “best bath and body collection”.
‘Michael Kors’ for women has a distinct and unique scent due to composing slightly unusual ingredients, compared to more conventional fragrances. It combines a plethora of flowers such as white ping Peony, fresh tuberose, blue orrise as well as musk, cashmere woods, tamarind, incense and newsy freesia. Inspired by the oriental Morocco, this scent is intense and exotic in its effervescent flavours. Due to this, it is recommended for evening wear.
‘For Men’ relies on deeper woodsy accords of bergamot, spices, sandalwood, incense and a hint of suede. It is classy and suave, therefore suitable for the modern man.
One of the most recent fragrances ‘Island’ by Michael Kors is, as the name implies, a fresh beachy aroma with a cool ocean breeze. It contains Parrot Tulip, Chinese Kiwi, Honeysuckle, ginger-lilies and champaca flowers to represent a sweet, colourful, tropical forest. White bark and driftwood accords enhance these floral notes along with stephanotis and Bulgarian rose. Like his signature fragrance ‘Michael Kors’, ‘Island’ represents a mixture of slightly unusual ingredients for a lush yet calm aroma.
Over the past two years Michael Kors has expanded the ‘Island’ perfume to ‘Island Fiji’, ‘Island Capri’ and ‘Island Hawaii’. ‘Island Capri’ reinvents the island smell by adding basil, bitter orange, fig leaf, jasmine, olive tree and leather to the fresh signature scent. Though more similar to the original ‘Island’ smell is ‘Island Fiji’ which is comprised of honeysuckle, mango, kiwi, birch, Bulgarian rose, jasmine, cactus, ginger and frangipani. Like a fruit platter served on a flower bed, this scent explodes in tropical colours and flavours. ‘Island Hawaii’ also features floral scents and fruits such as pineapple, jasmine, ginger flower, clementine, orange, and orange blossom. White amber and resins mix with sandalwood to form the base notes. The island line is vibrant and energetic and suitable for day time wear due to its flowery and fruity essence. With sophisticated yet exotic scents, Michael Kors can attract a large audience. Unusual touches make his perfumes special and unique and will make the wearer stand out from the crowd.
