Born in Italy, Nino Cerruti grew up with fabrics and materials due to his family’s textile business. He became head of this business at age 20 and soon held a fond interest in fashion. His first men’s collection, Hitman, appeared in 1957, his first line however did not launch until 1967 followed by a women’s collection in 1968.

The first Nino Cerruti fragrance was created in 1978 by the name of ‘Nino Cerruti’ for men. A women’s perfume was not released until nearly ten years later. ‘Nino Cerruti’ appears to be no longer available, however ‘Image, ‘CerrutiSi’ and the ‘1881′ lines are still quite popular.
‘Image’ for her is a woodsy and gentle aroma. Because it is recommended for office wear it is neither bold nor intoxicating. Amber, wood and leather are combined with hints of citrus and mint leaves for a sleek, sophisticated scent. The male version of ‘Image’, though slightly more daring, is also an office wear fragrance. A blend of fruits, lavender and amber provide a spicy and fresh aroma.
The fragrance ‘CerrutiSi’ for men is an exotic blend of rosemary, ginger, cubeba lilsea, copahu balm, cedar, geranium and moss. This floral scent is best suited for day wear.
‘Cerruti 1881′ for men is a fresh, cool and energising fragrance with lemon, blasam fir and clove. Like a cool ocean breeze, this evening perfume is reviving and soothing at the same time.
Opposed to the male version ‘1881′ for women is bolder due to its bursts of Sicilian tangerine, Sangiovesc grape, Florentine iris, Corregiolo olive, Tuscan cypress, amber and patchouli. A taste of Italy can be experienced vicariously with this elegant scent. Classy, faceted and tasteful, it also makes a wonderful gift!
Furthermore, belonging to the ‘1881′ line is ‘1881 Eau d’Ete’ for women. This is a youthful version of ‘1881′ (above). It is fresh and invigorating with exciting notes of bergamot, cypress, cardamom, jasmine sandalwood, vertiver and musk. Although it is often deemed as a simple combination between ‘1881′ and ‘1881 Amber’ it aims to reinvent the existing fragrance to achieve a newer and younger scent.
A further suave and sophisticated scent created for men by Nino Cerruti is ‘Cerruti 1881 Black’ which was released in 2006 followed by ‘Pour femme Blanc’ in the same year. The alluring aromas of ‘Black’, though seemingly mysterious’ are also daring and brazen. Bitter orange, black pepper with sandalwood and nutmeg are followed by exquisite marzipan and wood. It is truly addicting!
Overall fragrance by Nino Cerruti is elegant, sophisticated, classy and tasteful. Suitable for any modern man and women, his perfumes are a timeless and unique experience. Although women’s perfume by Nino Cerruti appears to be less popular and in limited availability compared to men’s it still is popular across a wide audience and continues to resonate throughout the generations.
