In fact, her designing abilities were so outstanding that her final year fashion collection was immediately bought by famous fashion stores including Browns, Joseph, Bergdorf Goodman, and Neiman Marcus. Stella McCartney graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in 1995.
Although she had only worked on 2 collections, she was appointed creative director of the house of Chloe in 1997. Her time at Chloe in Paris was a great success, both commercially and creatively.
In 2001, Stella left Chloe to start her own fashion house, with the support of the Gucci Group. In October 2001 Stella showed her Spring/Summer 2002 collection in Paris. Following the collection, Stella announced the launch of a perfume in 2003. Also in 2003, she married magazine publisher, Alasdhair Willis. Today, the couple have three children together.
Stella McCartney’s style is a smart combination of sleek tailoring femininity. There is also a sense of humour in many of her creations. Another design influence which she follows is her refusal to use leather or fur in her work; she is a committed vegetarian, like her mother before her. Stella McCartney was awarded the VH1/Vogue Fashion and Music 2000 Designer of the year award. Besides designing under her own label, Stella McCartney has also designed several popular collections for Adidas, Puma and Hennes.
Fragrances
Stella McCartney launched her own signature fragrance Stella in September 2003. The inspiration behind this perfume is the attempt to encapsulate the scent, splendour and vulnerability of a rose at full bloom. The rose essence gives it a romantic feel while the amber provides sensuality. This subtle yet sophisticated perfume is packaged in a vintage-styled amethyst crystal bottle.
In 2005, the fragrance Sheer Stella was created. This is a cool summer fragrance, feminine and flirtatious. Inspired by a piece of sexy vintage lace which Stella McCartney herself adored, this fragrance is glamorous and just a little risqué.
Another Stella McCartney fragrance Stella In Two carries the fresh and gorgeous scent of peony-rose. Stella McCartney In Two perfume contains a distinctive mix of patchouli, cedar with a touch of amber, subtly accentuating its masculine side.
