Thierry Mugler is known worldwide as a French fashion designer. Born in Strasbourg, France in 1948, Thierry Mugler started his fashion career in Paris as a window-dresser. It did not take him long to design and launch his first collection Café de Paris in 1973. In 1975, his womens-wear label was established, followed by his menswear in 1978.

Throughout Thierry Mugler’s career, his style has been edgy and contemporary. He likes solid, dominant, pointed styles. His themes include the fascinating world of insects as well as space and robots. Another influence came from film noir characters. He was not afraid to use unconventional materials such as PVC in his designs.
Unfortunately, Thierry Mugler’s fashion house did not thrive in the 1990s and the couture business had to be closed down in 2003. In 1997, Thierry Mugler’s famous line of fragrances was launched in partnership with the French cosmetics and skincare company Clarins. Today, it remains the most successful part of Thierry Mugler’s product lines. His fragrances are complemented by Thierry Mugler’s cosmetics line Dare the Metamorphosis, which can only be purchased exclusively at selected stores worldwide or through the website.
Thierry Mugler’s world of fragrances
Thierry Mugler’s most well-known perfume line is Angel, created for women in 1992. A romantic and delicious fusion of honey, chocolate and caramel mixed with notes of vanilla, patchouli and sandalwood. In 1998, Angel Innocentor Innocent was born, another fragrance for women. This is a lively scent with a fruity fragrance. Other popular women’s fragrances in this line include the floral Angel Garden of Stars.
Alien was launched in 2005, followed by the limited edition Innocent Summer Flash launched in 2006; Innocent Secret exclusively sold in Victoria Secrets retail outlets in 2006 and Eau de Star launched in 2007. Also in 2007, a line of five women’s fragrances under the label Mirror Mirror! was developed to be sold at a higher price to a limited market. Most recently, Innocent Illusion was released in 2008.
Thierry Mugler’s first fragrance for men A*Men was developed in 1996. It is known as Angel Men in North America. Inspired by the significant moments of a man’s day, it contains the aroma of morning coffee, strong woody daytime notes, finishing with soft intimate evening tones. In 2006, the limited edition A*Men Summer Flash was launched. In 2004, B*Men was created, followed by ICE*Men in 2007.
Thierry Mugler also specially created a costly limited -edition unisex fragrance — Perfume: The Coffret in 2006 as part of a tie-in to movie, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.
