Although Valentino was the creative force of the business, the financial aspect was taken care of by Giammetti. Today it is owned by the Marzotto Group; a textile manufacturer and fashion design house based in Milan, who bought Valentino SpA in 2002.
Valentino’s ascent to fashion fame started in 1962 where he launched his first and very successful couture collection. Valentino has designed and dressed some of the world’s most beautiful women including Elizabeth Taylor, Jacqueline Kennedy and Princess Margaret. His celebrated logo ‘V’ is recognised all over the world.
Valentino retired in January 2008, leaving Alessandra Facchinetti as creative director.
Valentino’s Perfumes
Valentino’s signature scent Rock ‘n Rose was inspired by the contrasting aspects of the modern woman; stylish yet spirited, elegant yet vibrant.
Valentino’s V was launched in 2005; it is a fragrance that exudes confidence, vitality and optimism. It has blends of mandarin, fig, orange blossoms, rose petals and frangipani flowers, mixed with notes of cedarwood, sandalwood and amber.
Valentino’s other early but still popular women’s fragrance is Very Valentino Femme. Created in 1997, this is a revitalising fragrance, greatly suited for daytime wear. It contains citrus and florals blended with notes of sandalwood, vanilla, amber and musk. To complement this scent, there is also Very Valentino Homme which was released at the same time. Similarly, this oriental and masculine fragrance is ideal for daytime wear.
Valentino’s V Pour Homme has been especially developed for the man who enjoys luxury. It is a warm blend of spice and wood fused with fresh modern notes of bergamot, mandarin and plum.
