She also attended the Sorbonne in Paris. Her exposure to the world of fashion started young; as a girl, she was fortunate to be taken to Paris fashion shows by her mother.

Before launching her own business in 1990, Vera Wang worked for Vogue for sixteen years as a senior editor. She also worked for Ralph Lauren as a design director for two years. Vera Wang has famously created lavish wedding gowns for superstars including Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham. Besides her coveted wedding gowns, Vera Wang other design range include fragrance, jewellery, eyewear, footwear and home-ware.

Vera Wang is known for her use of luxury fabrics and materials, exquisite attention to detail and a contemporary take on traditional designs. In June 2005, she won the Council of the Fashion Designers of America Womenswear Designer of the Year. Vera Wang also received the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2006. Vera Wang has numerous exclusive boutiques located in New York, Boston, Beverly Hills and Waikiki. Her creations can be bought in certain major departmental stores.

Today, Vera Wang lives in New York City with her husband, businessman Arthur Becker, and their two adopted daughters. Vera Wang retains control of her company; she is chairman, chief executive and owner.
